The original hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop was where Mortadeli’s humble beginnings were established, with a simple made to order menu that quickly became beloved by locals for its freshly baked bread and generous fillings.

Taking influence from the traditional Mediterranean alimentari’s and New York diner’s, there are nods to cult-classic flavours with an emphasis on fresh, local produce and ingredients. Pouring our own special blend of Everyday Coffee beans, piped-to-order Sicilian style ricotta/pistachio cannolis, traditional sweet treats and freshly-baked Maltese pastizzis. Our made to order sandwiches use locally baked ciabatta rolls, pastadura or dark rye, and while we don’t offer Gluten Free bread, we can alter some items to cater to most dietary needs.

The piazza provides a casual and communal alfresco area to start the day with our breakfast offering and cup of coffee in the sun or pop in a little later with our  lunch menu starting at 11am. Alternatively, if you want the true European experience, spritzes, beers and Italian wines are available on tap to enjoy alongside our menu.

In the sandwich shop it is first come first served, and we don’t take bookings. At peak periods it might be hard to find a seat to dine in, but with such a charming shoreline just minutes away, take away is warmly encouraged, and is the most enjoyable way to enjoy a Ħobż biż-żejt in our opinion.
